Kaiju sketch: Rhedosaurus by painted-wolfs-den Kaiju sketch: Rhedosaurus by painted-wolfs-den
Rhedosaurus from the 1953 classic _The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms_ drawn for the Kaijuden challenge.

I decided to try something a bit different with the scales. Hopefully it came out looking pretty good, I'm pretty happy with it.

It was fun to work toward a deadline again and to actually reach it... though, I forgot to sign up for Kaijuden ahead of time, so I don't know if it'll make it after all.

I love your Rhedosaurus design. When I first saw it, I was like "WoW".Definitely a great tribute to "The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" and Sir Ray Harryhausen as well. :-)

GAAAAAAh I posted the wrong review here! I'm sorry. I'm a freaking dummy.

This is your review. My hand just hurts thinking about trying to pencil in all those scales and bumps in his hide lol. Absolutely great detail. Shading is spot on and shows years of practice. This is evident when you use a darker shade for the forearms and head and taper off to a lighter gray-scale for the tail and hindquarters. I like the fan ears you added to him; a little embellishment of the real thing, but a great little add on. I like the grinning droll. Gives the monster a bit more depth and makes him not seem so flat. Normally I am a color whore and just want to color everything haha, but this thing looks so nice in it’s current form. :)

Again I'm sorry, I copy and posted the wrong review

No worries!

Thank you so much for the review!

I have to admit my hand wasn't all that happy with me after all that inking. It looked much easier in pencil but I'm thrilled that it came out as well as it did and that you like it.

Normally I wait and post all the reviews for the Art Jam up in the Den's Journal but I figure I will post it here a bit early :)

Hedorah1971: I always enjoy seeing pieces that have busy backgrounds that usually derive from city landscape. The detail to each bump and scale on the hide is really well done. It’s a pretty close representation of the monster, just with a slightly smaller head. But I can understand why you did it the way you did. It just seemed so weird that his head was the size of most of his upper torso in that flick. It is a great action scene though. I wish that buildings had a bit more darker shades in their gray-scales. But then again, with them like that, it does make the shade and detail on the dino stand out even more. So that is really just a personal preference. It is an expansive piece though that really is a great entry. :)

Don't worry, your fantastic Rhedosaurus work here made it to the art jam, and I've submitted it to as many other groups as well.

Thanks so much, and in case you don't know, the current one for July is Gabara, an ogre-like bully beast from "Godzilla's Revenge": [link]

Not bad, though it does look a tad like the child of the Rhedosaurus and Gorgo.

I had to remind myself not to go too crazy with them... scales can sneak up on you that way.
