Back in 2008 I did some illustrations for Carnivore Games for their book "The Unexplained". A sweet FUDGE based RPG where everyone plays paranormal investigators.
I was fortunate enough to be asked to do illustrations for the Cryptids section of the book. I learned a lot on that job and I'm very grateful to Carnivore Games for giving me the opportunity!
These were some of the test sketches I did for the Mourou N'gou and Tigre de Montagne. I thought they were likely misidentified lions so I gave them manes to start out with... but later removed them at the request of the author. He liked the more classic sabertooth look.
The finished piece was essentially the same, but minus the manes.
